1. Information Technology Manager
An Information Technology Manager oversees the Information Technology operations of a company. These operations typically include the following:
- Networking
- Data communication
- Software evaluation and deployment
- Computer security
- Information systems planning and development
- Information systems support
The Information Technology Manager’s job typically involves liaising with business managers, technical managers, and technical staff. The Information Technology Manager ensures that the IT department is providing the kind of services that are needed by the business department, while still maintaining the IT department’s own infrastructure.
2. Systems Analyst
The Systems Analyst job is similar to the Information Technology Manager. But the Systems Analyst job is usually not as high in the organizational structure as the Information Technology Manager.
The Systems Analyst job will typically report to an Information Technology Manager. So the Systems Analyst is not responsible for the entire IT department.
However, the Systems Analyst is responsible for using information gathered from other department employees to assist with developing business-oriented systems that will help improve business processes and efficiency. Because of this reliance on other employees, the Systems Analyst must be able to coordinate with many different people in order to ensure that he or she has all of the information needed to complete his or her project.
3. Network Administrator/Engineer
The Network Administrator/Engineer is responsible for managing a company’s entire network. This person will design, implement, and maintain a company’s internal and external networks. The Network Administrator/Engineer will also monitor the network to ensure that it is functioning accurately.
The Network Administrator/Engineer may also be responsible for installing, configuring, and upgrading all of the hardware and software used on the network. This could include servers, routers, operating systems, as well as applications such as word processors and games. In addition, this person may also be responsible for hiring, training, and managing a team of other Network Administrators/Engineers.
4. Computer Programmer
A Computer Programmer is responsible for writing code that is used to create computer programs. This person will work with a team of software developers who are creating applications and systems for their company. These applications and systems could be used to manage customer accounts, handle payroll, or process sales orders.
A Computer Programmer will also work with a team of technical engineers and/or hardware engineers who are responsible for designing and implementing the hardware and software that the computer programmer will use to write his or her code.
Typically, a Computer Programmer will be assigned to a specific project for an extended period of time. While on this project, the programmer may be asked to write code that is used by the project’s technical engineers to create a prototype of the system.
The Computer Programmer will also have to write code that can be easily understood by the business users who will be using the system. If the programmer’s code is difficult to understand, then the business users will have a difficult time using the system.
